This credit card is representative of a fairly standard credit account except that cardholders will have the opportunity to earn cash back on purchases made throughout the year. When you shop at the specially promoted stores, warehouses and businesses you will earn a small percentage of your purchase amount back; you will also earn 1% cash back on all purchases after your annual spending exceeds $3000 and 5% on all purchases before that amount when you participate in the Get More programs promoted by Discover.
There are no annual fees on this card however there are late fees, overlimit spending fees, balance transfer fees and cash advance fees to consider before opening an account and using the card. Late fees are calculated at $15 for any amount up to $500 and $39 for any amount over that; this rate will change after the introductory offer expires on December 1st 2007 so that the fee is $19 for any amount up to $250 and $39 for any amount exceeding that. If you charge more on the card than you have been allocated in credit then your account will be subjected to overlimit fees which are $15 for any amount up to $500 and $39 for any amount over that. For each cash advance transaction you will need to pay 3% with a minimum of $5. The annual fee for cash advances is 23.99%. If you want to make a balance transfer onto this card from another or several other credit card accounts then the fee is 3% with a $10 minimum and a $75 maximum payment. There will be no APR on the balance transfers until February 2009 when the amount will be subject to regular purchase APR. This card starts with an APR of 11.99% to 18.99% depending on your credit history however if you miss payments and carry your balance forward month to month then this will change to the default APR of up to 29.99%.
The grace period on this account is standard for Discover cards: 25 days. If you clear your purchase balance on time each month then you will retain this grace period so that purchases are not subject to APR. If you can keep this intact you will save yourself a great deal in interest on the account. This is an ideal credit account if you don't intend to make many cash advances or balance transfers yet want to benefit from the cash back program. |
