The Credit or Debit Debate
The act of borrowing money one credit has been around in some form for centuries. Credit cards can vary from lender to lender and are a bit more tricky than Debit. When borrowing money on credit there are a lot of fees and "hidden charges" that might cost you more money than you want to spend. Credit cards can be very beneficial if you are smart about it. It is a huge responsibility to borrow a large amount of money. Late fees can occur if payments are late even by one day. These fees can add up. Credit cards when used properly can build credit, enable you to make purchases without having to pay in full at one time, and make purchases that are easier or only available with a credit card. These are purchases such as hotel rooms and rental cars. Credit cards are important to everyday life in this decade and will only continue to be more necessary.
It cannot be stressed enough how important it is to be a frugal and responsible credit card holder. A common problem with credit cards is human error. The card holder simply spends to much money either going over the credit limit or not being able to make the monthly payments on time. These kinds of errors can create a lot of problems with your credit in the future.
If you do happen to have bad credit or you just have no credit a debit card can be a good choice. In that same category there are prepaid cards and secured credit cards. These cards do not allow you to spend more money than you have therefore no debt will exist. Secured credit cards are a very good way to build your credit back up or just starting out. Debit cards are usually associated with a personal checking account. These are very convenient and are used just like a credit card except there is no money being borrowed. It is usually recommended that young adults get credit cards to help build their credit. However there is great responsibility that comes along with credit and it is imperative that your young adult learn the roped early. Learning how to budget early in life is a very helpful ability to have through out life.
All of these forms of payment can potentially have some fees or charges. These are typically when you the card holder makes a mistake. It is important to do your research when deciding on what kind of a card to get. No one is better than the other, they vary from person to person and what is best for you and your budget. So do your homework and find a card that fits you.
